ROAM UNLEASHED III
2024
A gamer dives into a new release, only to realize the line between the game and reality is starting to blur.
Roam Unleashed III is an original short film—not the third part of a trilogy, despite what the title suggests. It’s a satire of the video game industry’s relentless push for bigger, better, and more realistic experiences.

The idea sparked around the release of a new Grand Theft Auto trailer and the worldwide hype surrounding it. I was fascinated by the endless theories and speculation—how would the developers outdo themselves this time? At the same time, I wanted to explore the prevalence of violence in video games, especially those set in real-world locations. We consume on-screen violence so casually—but what if it crossed into our reality? Would we still be so eager to engage, especially if we became the targets?
I was also drawn to the impossible expectations placed on game developers—to constantly evolve their work in an era of artificial intelligence and ever-advancing technology.
That led me to a thought experiment: What if a game offered a perfect 1:1 recreation of your city, even letting you walk into your own apartment and interact with your real-world surroundings? And what if, in the end, your in-game avatar had had enough of being controlled?
Roam Unleashed III is a simple concept with a twist, blending open-world gaming with elements of a ghost story. It was shot over two days with a group of friends, and I hope everyone enjoys the ride.
